J. Period & Ralph McDaniels join forces for Biggie video mixtape
03-10-10

Mixtape heavyweight J.Period is continuing his B.I.G.-inspired March 9 Project by collaborating with Hip-Hop video pioneer Ralph McDaniels for the March 9: Video Remix Collection.

The ongoing theme of the March 9 Project is answering the hypothetical question of “What would Hip-Hop be like if B.I.G. were still alive?”

To that end, the remixed videos will show Biggie performing updated versions of his classic tracks.

The first video, “Flava in Ya Ear (March 9 Video Remix),” is available now. The project wraps up its promotion later this month when BET showcases the video collection as a part of their tribute to the slain emcee.

J. Period acknowledged the March 9 Video Remix Collection as his most ambitious project to date, and praised Ralph McDaniels as the essential ingredient that was needed to bring this idea to fruition.

“I’m thrilled to be working with a legend like ‘Uncle’ Ralph, who is still so passionate and creative after 25 years in the game,” J. Period said. “Ralph’s vast knowledge of Hip-Hop makes him the perfect collaborator for what I do. Teaming up to pay tribute to B.I.G. felt like the perfect way to spark that collaboration.”

J. Period’s latest B.I.G. tribute comes after a highly successful 2009 that saw him release 5 tributes (Nneka, Q-Tip, K’Naan, Talib Kweli, and Michael Jackson) that totaled over 800,000 downloads.

J. Period was also featured prominently in one of last year’s biggest games in Activision’s DJ Hero.

Ralph McDaniels, through his seminal show Video Music Box, broke ground as the creator of the first Hip-Hop video show aired on public television. Since 1984, the industry legend has directed over 200 videos with credits ranging from Public Enemy to Nas.

The online launch is available at www.jperiod.com/march9.  New videos will be updated every week and culminate with a full-length video mixtape release in April.
