The family of the late Tony Silver, director of the classic 1983 Hip-Hop movie Style Wars, is asking fans to help restore the original print of the movie.


According to the official Style Wars website, the original negative of the film had been damaged after many years in storage. Silver’s family hopes to use digital technology to restore the movie frame by frame.


The restoration of the cult-classic, which features The Rock Steady Crew, legendary graffiti artists Dondi and Seen, will cost about $500,000.


Style Wars was produced by Tony Silver and Henry Chalfont. The documentary took the Grand Prize in Documentaries at the Sundance Film Festival in 1983.
