Leaders of the New School
Leaders of the New School
The Leaders of the New School were a Long Island Hip Hop crew composed of Uniondale, NY natives Charlie Brown (Bryan Higgins), Dinco D (Patrice James Jackson), Busta Rhymes (Trevor Smith), and Cut Monitor Milo (Sheldon Scott), Busta Rhymes' cousin. The four got their start touring with hip hop group Public Enemy and in fact it was member Chuck D who gave Busta Rhymes and Charlie Brown their names.
The group made their first appearance on an Elektra Records compilation titled Rubaiyat:Elektra's 40th Anniversary, with a song called "Mt. Airy Groove". LONS soon joined up with popular hip hop collective, the Native Tongues Posse, along with the Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and Black Sheep.
Currently the group is still recording and performing separately. Busta Rhymes has achieved success as a solo artist. Dinco D is recording and producing independently, Charlie Brown recorded 2 albums worth of soon- to-be-released material, Milo In De Dance is producing and recording material on his own independent imprint.
Recently, the group (without Busta Rhymes) reconnected with DJ Johnny Juice and has begun to record new material.
