10 Year Anniversary of Poetic's tragic passing
07-14-10 01:08

July 15, 2010 will mark the 10 year anniversary since the tragic passing of Anthony Berkeley pka Poetic. On this day Hip Hop lost a creative artist, and his family and friends lost someone who had so much more of himself to give.  He will forever be dearly missed, and always live in the hearts of those who loved him. His laugh was infectious, and his humor unlike anyone I’ve ever known. He had such a way with words, and a magic about him that could strengthen your spirit.

Prior to working on the Gravediggaz project and thereafter, Poetic was working hard on his solo material. Some of those compositions were altered for contribution toward the tracks on the Nightmare In A Minor project.  He has a collection of material that deserves to be heard as he intended.

No release after his passing was according to his wishes. From altering his works to mysteriously changed titles, my focus was on protecting his works while spending years fighting a host of individuals in possession of his material.

I’ve sat back for 10 years watching individuals take advantage of his death and create a facade in order to sell records. To add insult to injury these same individuals who claim they act in his honor, have completely disrespected his work and marred his legacy.

His writings left behind made it clear that no one was given the right to act on his behalf yet the internet was saturated with an unjust fabrication.

It's time that I focus on the future, and work to replace the bad memories of the last release with something truly in his honor. No other entity was given the rights to release any future music, and I pray that those in possession will respect his wishes.

It was this personal statement, along with many others that express his wishes with regard to his music.  It was his wishes that were ignored since his passing. I have posted an excerpt from one of his many writings left behind.

"Music is my love; it gives me the opportunity to express myself.

I do not wish to be exploited by any individual including______________ before, or after my death without clear written consent from D Hill.

This includes albums, singles, tapes or any other recorded material vocal or instrumental. Nor shall anyone use my name or likeness without clear written consent from D Hill"

My unreleased (any and all) music recordings, in any form from demo to white label to commercial, internet, Dat "2inch" or any known mastering technique available to man in which my production or lyrical performance is rendered, it shall be deemed illegally written without my permission or that of D Hill"

I’ve been harassed over the years because I fought to honor these wishes. This 10 year anniversary will signify a renewed dedication to finally find closure, and replace the old with the new.  I am looking forward to giving Poetic the respect he deserves.  There was little that he asked for and he deserves his right to privacy, publicity, and his wishes.

His solo material will be released under the moniker he created "Tony Titanium"
He mentioned his creation of this moniker for his solo material in an interview.
