It is with sadness that we announce to longtime Hip-Hop heads that legendary MC and famed graffiti writer, Rammellzee, also known as RAMMΣLLZΣΣ has recently passed away.
Primarily known through his involvement with the Death Comet Crew, Gettovetts and as a part of the groundbreaking film "Wild Style", Rammellzee is widely considered a progenitor of the modern New York emceeing style and several graffiti styles as well. His influences have traces everywhere in the culture.
At the moment, both Fab Five Freddy and Sam Sever are confirming that Rammellzee passed on earlier today, no specific word yet on the details of how he passed.
Rammellzee was an eccentric pioneer in hip-hop and a player in the graffiti world being a member of such crews as CIA and The Master Bombers. His song "Beat Bop" was featured in the film Style Wars.
He also was one of the few writers in the early days to be recognized by the art world, partly due to his association with famed New York ‘street artist’ Jean-Michel Basquiat. His artistic work has been shown in art galleries throughout the US and Europe.
Never to be duplicated, Rammellzee - a true original on the scene who will be forever celebrated through his music and artwork that spoke to so many people worldwide.
